RECORDS THE PUBLIC MAY REQUEST
The public may request records that are prepared, owned, used, or retained by MFD in the course of its operations. These may include:
- Meeting agendas and minutes
- Budgets, financial statements, and audits
- Policies, procedures, and manuals
- Non-confidential fire inspection reports
- Training schedules and general operational reports
- Incident reports, with sensitive information redacted as required by law
EXEMPTIONS AND LIMITATIONS
Certain records are not subject to public disclosure, including:
- Personnel records containing private information such as home addresses, social security numbers, medical information, or employee evaluations
- Law enforcement-sensitive records that could compromise investigations or public safety
- Medical or patient records protected by HIPAA or other privacy laws
- Records involving minors when disclosure is prohibited by law
- Confidential business information obtained by MFD (e.g., vendor proposals before contract award)
MFD may redact exempt information before providing requested records. Any denial or partial denial will cite the specific legal exemption.
RECORDS THAT CANNOT BE REQUESTED
The public cannot request:
- Records that do not exist
- Personal emails or private communications of staff unrelated to public business
- Speculative or “to be created” reports that do not yet exist
